Two teachers of Nazareth Junior/Senior College, Ibowon, Epe who were previously accused of defiling some female students of the school have now been handed over to the state Police.
The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, disclosed this in his office, indicated that the arrest was effected after the teachers confessed to their crime at a Personnel Management Board meeting set up by the Ministry.
Odeyemi said that the recommendations of the PMB would be implemented to the letter by the Government as a way of demonstrating its nontolerance to child abuse in Lagos State.
The Permanent Secretary explained further that the students, who were the complainants, had already offered statements at the Lagos State Police Command, while necessary steps towards prosecution will be taken as soon the Police conclude their investigation.
He said further that in line with established procedures, the State Government had taken the affected students to the hospital for comprehensive medical examination to aid in the Police investigation.
The Permanent Secretary pledged that the State Government would ensure that any student found to have been abused and traumatized by the event would undergo necessary counseling and rehabilitation at appropriate government agencies.
